Craigova's rolling stock manufacturer, Softronic, announced on the 25th of April, the delivery of the fourth modernized locomotive under the Resilience Facility contract with CFR Całațori. According to Economic.net, this locomotive holds a special significance, featuring an image of Constantin Brâncusi.
Last week marked the delivery of the third modernized locomotive under the contract. This deal was sealed at the tail-end of 2023, funded by the country's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), a Europe-backed recovery instrument. The modernization project aims to reinvigorate 19 electric locomotives originally built at Electroputere Craiova for use in circulation [1].
In a separate move, CFR Călători procured 55 locomotives for modernization through a separate contract sealed in December 2023, also falling under the PNRR initiatives aimed at railway modernization [2].
