Forging Ahead into the Future: AGO Group's Journey Towards Prosperity (A New Blend of Old and Modern Approaches)

Revitalizing the Economy: Dialogue between Mayor Jan Einig, Alexandra Rünz, and Local Enterprises in Neuwied

Mayor Jan Einig is on a mission to reinforce and grow Neuwied's economic foundation. This involves not just long-term large-scale industrial zone expansion, aiming to lure new companies, but also maintaining existing businesses. Hence, the mayor frequently connects with CEOs, like Alexandra Rünz from the municipal economic development, for direct discussions.

"We can't dive headfirst into the steel industry, but we can craft an environment that enters like the AGO Group thrive," stressed Mayor Jan Einig. "Our economy is the vital root that nourishes everything else. A vigorous economy benefits us all."

Arn. Georg AG, a steel construction powerhouse founded in Neuwied in 1877, is an established name in the industry. After spinning off in 1990, AGO Stahlbau Neuwied GmbH is now the flagship unit of the AGO Group, employing over 100 individuals on their expansive 93,000 square meter site. This company, with their order books brimming for about two years, significantly contributes to Neuwied's economic might and Germany's energy transition. The core business of AGO entails the production and delivery of steel lattice masts for massive power lines, essential for expanding the German power grid.

Managing Director, Sándor Györy, and his team showcased AGO's latest corporate triumph: Since 2005, all listed companies within the group have consistently reported positive revenues. In addition to fabricating steel lattice masts, managing mast steel warehouses, and undertaking unique projects in the energy sector, they are key players.

Notable projects include the production and delivery of around 14,000 tons of components for the Wuppertal suspension railway (1998-2003), a testament to AGO's engineering prowess. They managed to assemble the riveted, large bridge constructions for the project.

Future-oriented discussions on using wind energy via AGO lattice towers also transpired, leaving Alexandra Rünz from the economic development impressed: "The AGO Group skillfully incorporates tradition with modern ideas, adding value to the region."

"Our success stems from exceptional quality, adaptability, reliability, unwavering delivery readiness, and punctuality, coupled with close partnerships with our customers and suppliers," explains Györy, who has significantly impacted AGO's trajectory during his 30-year tenure. He plans to retire this year, proud of AGO's achievements and the camaraderie within the company: "Many of our new hires become lifelong AGO members."

Succeeding Györy, Marc Heister is aware of AGO's significant focus on apprentice training and employee retention. "Long-term success depends on contented and competent employees," says Heister. Like many companies, AGO regards the recruitment of apprentices as a critical concern. One approach to finding apprentices is participating in the annual training fair in Neuwied, happening on May 28, 2025, from 9 to 13 am on the grounds of the David-Roentgen School. "Yet, we must explore novel methods to captivate and inspire young minds," adds Heister, readying strategies for the near future.

This visit underscored the importance of persisting dialogue between the city and businesses. "Our common goal is to support businesses in their growth and ensure Neuwied's long-term economic footing," said Mayor Jan Einig in conclusion.

  1. Mayor Jan Einig emphasized the need to create an environment that attracts businesses like AGO Group, highlighting the importance of Economic and social policy for the city's growth.
  2. The success of businesses, such as those in the energy sector like AGO Group, plays a significant role in the city's Finance and overall Economy, benefiting both industry and the local community.
