Ford to Commence Construction on New Headquarters, Setting Sights on Demolishing Landmark 'Glass House'
Ford to Move into New World Headquarters in Dearborn
Ford Motor Co. has announced plans to relocate its world headquarters to Dearborn, Michigan, with the new campus set to open in 2025. The new headquarters will be built on the former Ford Product Development Center site, which opened in 1953.
The new Ford World Headquarters will span over 2.1 million square feet of office space, featuring a 160,000-square-foot food hall and 12 acres of outdoor green space. The campus, which will be roughly double the size of the current headquarters, can house up to 4,000 employees. A total of 14,000 employees will be within a 15-minute walk of the new space.
In a significant change, the company is vacating and demolishing the iconic "Glass House" office, which was one of the largest office buildings in the U.S. occupied by a single company when it opened in 1956. The Glass House will be entirely vacated by Ford in the first half of 2026, with the sustainable decommissioning and demolition process taking 18 months.
Ford plans to repurpose the former Glass House site, working closely with the city of Dearborn on a development plan. The company will retain ownership of the Glass House property.
Meanwhile, Ford's other Dearborn campus will be renamed after Henry Ford II. The final section of the new headquarters will be completed in 2027, with the official opening for employees and the public scheduled for November.
The new campus is expected to be a significant step forward for Ford, providing a modern and sustainable workspace that supports collaboration and innovation.
