Foodtech platform Chowdeck strengthens position by acquiring POS startup Mira, expanding its offerings in the industry.

Foodtech platform Chowdeck boosts capabilities through acquisition of POS startup Mira, solidifying its position as a comprehensive solution provider in the food industry.

In a strategic move to revolutionize the food and hospitality sector, Chowdeck, a leading food delivery service in Africa, has announced the acquisition of Mira, a fast-growing point-of-sale (POS) provider. The goal is to raise the bar on speed, quality, and convenience for both businesses and consumers.

The acquisition of Mira allows Chowdeck to expand beyond its core food delivery services and offer comprehensive operational support for hospitality businesses, including restaurants, supermarkets, and pharmacies. Mira's POS platform, which powers over 500 hospitality businesses, is now integrated with Chowdeck’s extensive delivery ecosystem, creating a more seamless and integrated experience for food businesses.

The new tools and solutions integrated from Mira include inventory management, payment processing, kitchen operations, customer engagement, inventory financing, invoicing, and sales management. These solutions are built with a deep understanding of local African market realities and infrastructure challenges, aiming to solve operational problems such as supply chain disruptions and the inefficiencies that have historically hindered growth and profitability in African hospitality businesses.

Key members of Mira's team, including CEO Ted Oladele, have joined Chowdeck. Oladele will lead the company as Head of Product, leveraging Mira's product development expertise to create new solutions tailored for Africa's hospitality market. The focus is particularly on markets like Nigeria, where inventory mismanagement affects profitability.

With this acquisition, Chowdeck is now positioned as a full-service technology partner for food businesses across Africa. The combined team will develop new business tools that cater specifically to the needs of the African market, addressing the structural issues such as supply chain instability, infrastructure gaps, and poor access to tailored software that food and hospitality businesses in Africa often face.

The impact on the hospitality market in Africa will be significant. Businesses will be equipped with tailored technology to address unique local challenges, reducing wastage and operational bottlenecks. Better inventory control and financial management tools will enhance business margins, leading to increased profitability. Chowdeck can now support food vendors not just through delivery but by becoming a comprehensive technology partner, deepening vendor relationships.

As the African food and hospitality market is projected to grow substantially, these technological advances position Chowdeck and its partners to capitalize on this expansion. The acquisition of Mira is set to transform how food and hospitality businesses operate in Africa, enabling them to run more efficiently, profitably, and competitively in a rapidly evolving market.

Chowdeck currently operates in 11 cities and boasts over 1.5 million users and 20,000 riders. The company recently expanded from Nigeria to Ghana and plans to continue its growth across the continent.
