Following Marianne Faithfull's demise, Her Musical Successes Persist Unabated
After her sad departure on January 30, Marianne Faithfull's music has seen a significant surge in popularity. Despite not releasing anything new for quite some time before her passing, the absence of this talented singer and actress has sparked renewed interest in her body of work.
Just last week, Faithfull reclaimed her spot on the British music charts with a hit album and a resurfaced popular single. Both are now climbing higher on these charts, surpassing previous milestones that she achieved just a few days prior.
Her album titled The Collection debuted at number 70 on the Official Album Download chart in the UK. It marks her third entry on this prestigious list, with her previous appearances in 2018 when Negative Capability reached as high as number 41, and Broken English debuting at number 53 last week.
Faithfull also managed to secure a new top 40 hit on two separate UK singles charts. Her song "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" launched at number 38 on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads lists. Interestingly, this isn't the first time Faithfull has appeared on these charts, as "As Tears Go By," her most renowned release, made its debut inside the top 40 last week as well. Surprisingly, it continues to remain there.
In its second week on the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, "As Tears Go By" experienced a remarkable boost, climbing from barely inside the top 40 to number 18. On the other hand, Broken English, one of Faithfull's popular albums, made a significant leap from number 53 to number 11 on the Official Album Downloads chart.
In the weeks following her passing, Faithfull reached new career highs on several charts. Broken English now holds the title of her highest-rising title on the Official Album Downloads chart, barely missing out on a posthumous top 10. Meanwhile, "As Tears Go By" has become her top-performing song on the two charts it currently appears on, and also marks her first top 20 hit.
