FKS Raids Expose Illegal Employment in German Catering Sector
Over 100 inspectors from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) of the Main Customs Office Cologne recently conducted a nationwide focus check on 38 catering businesses and their 187 employees. The operation revealed several cases of illegal employment, including a 45-year-old Vietnamese man in Erftstadt near Cologne.
The FKS inspectors began by questioning employees. This initial step aims to verify if all workers are properly registered for social security and if anyone is unlawfully receiving social benefits. In Erftstadt, a restaurant owner is under suspicion of illegally employing the Vietnamese man. Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the violation.
The inspections also uncovered illegal employment in Cologne restaurants. A 23-year-old Brazilian woman and a 28-year-old Indian man were found to be working without proper registration. Investigative proceedings have been initiated against the employers in all these cases. The monitoring of minimum wage compliance typically requires intensive follow-up inspections of the businesses.
The nationwide focus check by the FKS has led to the discovery of several cases of illegal employment in the catering sector. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the violations and to ensure that all employees are properly registered and receiving fair wages.
