Finnair Reveals Summer Flight Schedule for 2026
Finnair Announces Expansion of Nordic Network for Summer 2026
Finnair, the flag carrier of Finland, has unveiled its plans for an extensive expansion of its Nordic network come summer 2026. The announcement, made less than two weeks into the airline's summer 2025 schedule, has sent ripples of excitement through the travel industry.
Astrid Röben, a seasoned journalist with over 20 years of experience covering airlines, airports, and travel stories, has been closely following the developments. Röben, who has visited nearly 70 countries and authored several books, including "The Great Book of Airlines," "The Joy of Flying," and "Thai Airways - From Small Domestic Flight Service to Star Alliance Member," is well-equipped to provide insights into this latest move by Finnair.
The expansion includes the introduction of a new route to Alta, Norway, which will be served five times a week from March 29 to October 22, 2026, via Kittilä. Alta, known for its stunning Arctic nature and the opportunity to observe the Northern Lights, is a popular destination among travellers seeking unique experiences.
In addition to the Alta route, Finnair will also significantly expand its offerings to Ivalo and Kittilä, ideal for those who want to enjoy the ski season in the north well into spring. During April 2026, Finnair will increase the connection from Ivalo to Kirkenes to five weekly flights.
Finnair's plans for summer 2026 also include serving the Norwegian coastal city of Tromsø, flying five times a week from Helsinki via Rovaniemi to Tromsø. This expansion is in response to growing demand, according to the carrier.
The airline will also increase frequencies on existing routes. The connection to Mariehamn on the Åland Islands will be increased by two weekly flights. During the peak travel season from June to early August, Finnair will serve seasonal destinations such as Billund, Visby, and Bodø.
Moreover, Finnair plans to expand its flight schedules from Helsinki hub to Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Reykjavik in 2026, with each city receiving seven, two, and two additional weekly connections respectively.
The new Finnair summer 2026 destinations beyond Alta, Tromsø, and Kirkenes are Florence, Catania, Valencia, and the Greek island of Kos. The ATR aircraft used for the Alta route can accommodate 68 passengers, ensuring a comfortable journey for all travellers.
With these expansions, Finnair is poised to offer travellers even more opportunities to explore the Nordic region and beyond, making summer 2026 an exciting time for the airline and its passengers alike.
