Finastra Hit by Major Data Breach; 'abyss0' Sells 400GB of Stolen Data

Finastra, a global financial technology provider, has disclosed a significant security incident. On November 8, 2024, the company notified customers about the breach, which involved the theft of substantial data from its internal file transfer platform.

The incident, which Finastra is currently investigating, appears to have begun on November 7. The company's security team detected suspicious activity on its file transfer platform, suggesting compromised credentials as the likely root cause. The following day, a cybercriminal known as 'abyss0' started selling over 400 gigabytes of data allegedly stolen from Finastra.

Finastra has taken immediate action to mitigate the impact of the breach. It has implemented an alternative secure file sharing platform to ensure the continuity of service. The company is also working to determine the scope and nature of the data contained within the exfiltrated files.

This is not Finastra's first encounter with cyber threats. In March 2020, the company suffered a ransomware attack but was able to recover without paying a ransom. Finastra serves a vast client base, including 45 of the world's top 50 banks and over 8,000 financial institution clients worldwide.

Finastra is currently investigating the large-scale theft of information from its internal file transfer platform. The company has taken swift action to ensure business continuity and is working to understand the extent of the data breach. The identity of the person behind the incident, 'abyss0', remains unknown, and no official updates on investigations against this individual have been provided.
