Financial aid of 460,000 given to OFWs and their families in Mandaue City
In a significant move to support Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Central Visayas, the Department of Migrant Workers - Regional Office VII (DMW RO-VII) distributed PHP 460,000 in financial aid to OFWs and their families residing in Mandaue City on August 4, 2025.
The distribution was a result of the ongoing efforts by the government to aid modern heroes - the OFWs. Hon. Mayor Thadeo Jovito M. Ouano expressed his appreciation for the DMW RO-VII team, led by Regional Director Jhoaden "Jao" G. Lucero, MM, EnP, CESO IV, and the Division Chiefs and personnel.
The meeting, which also included Hon. Vice Mayor Glenn O. Bercede, highlighted the possibility of a partnership for the benefit of OFWs. During the discussion, potential support for OFWs and their families was discussed between the DMW office and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Mandaue. However, no new financial aid amounts or specific programs were mentioned.
The financial assistance provided was divided into two parts. The AKSYON Fund, which aims to help OFWs in need of immediate assistance, allocated PHP 350,000 to seven OFWs and their Next-of-Kin (NOKs). An additional PHP 110,000 was granted to 11 OFWs through the Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration (LPOR), to support their livelihood as they return home.
This initiative by DMW-7 reflects their broader strategy of providing financial and reintegration aid to OFWs regionwide. The objective is to promote welfare and sustainable livelihood among OFWs and their families, including support for repatriated workers and victims of scams. The ongoing coordination with local government units and private sectors aims to expand sustainable support services for OFWs in the Central Visayas region.
This financial aid distribution is another step forward in the government's commitment to supporting OFWs, ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive when they return home.
