FDOT's $23M Kennedy Blvd Project to Tackle Flooding, Improve Traffic & Pedestrian Access

FDOT has announced a significant road improvement project on Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa. Set to be completed by spring 2027, the $23 million project aims to tackle flooding issues, enhance traffic flow, and improve pedestrian accessibility. The project management for this endeavor is expected to take around six months, focusing on a 1.8-mile stretch from Willow Avenue to Henderson Boulevard. During this time, drivers can anticipate lane changes and a reduced speed limit of 30 mph in the work zone. The project includes repaving the road and installing new traffic signals at Habana Avenue, Fremont Avenue, and Oregon Avenue. To address recurring drainage problems, FDOT will upgrade the drainage system. Additionally, workers will create a mid-block pedestrian crossing at Edison Avenue and update sidewalks and ramps along the route. Traffic will be shifted to the north during the initial six months, with construction taking place in the south area. The comprehensive project, funded by a $23 million investment, is designed to mitigate flooding, enhance traffic management, and improve pedestrian safety. Upon completion, residents and commuters can expect a smoother, safer journey along Kennedy Boulevard.
