Falling diesel prices observed significantly according to ADAC
In a welcome relief for drivers, diesel prices in Germany have dropped to their lowest level in over two months, reaching €1.583 per liter as of August 13, 2025. This decline aligns with a broader decrease in fuel prices across Europe, likely due to a reduction in global crude oil prices or regional supply adjustments impacting fuel costs.
The current price difference between Super E10 and diesel is 8 cents per liter, higher than in recent weeks but still far from the tax difference of around 20 cents between the two types. The Automotive Club of the German Federation (ADAC) considers the decrease in diesel prices to be only a step in the right direction and expects it to continue.
The ADAC's "ADAC Drive" app, available 24/7, serves as a practical tool for finding cheap fuel stations. With over 14,000 stations in Germany listed on the app, drivers can view and compare fuel prices at their convenience. Filling up in the evenings can save around 13 cents per liter compared to mornings.
The decrease in fuel prices is attributed to lower crude oil prices, with a barrel of Brent crude oil currently costing 66 US dollars. The stronger euro against the US dollar also contributes to further relief in fuel prices. The average price of a liter of Super E10 is now 0.5 cents cheaper, averaging 1.663 euros.
Despite the recent drop, the ADAC considers the current diesel price to be still significantly too high. Given these circumstances, the ADAC expects the significantly more favorable conditions to also benefit diesel prices at the pumps. The ADAC's positive outlook for diesel prices is based on the ongoing decrease in crude oil prices and the strengthening of the euro against the US dollar.
