Eye Tracking and Occupant Monitoring Technology by CES Eyeris, OMNIVISION, and Leopard Driver Unveiled
In a groundbreaking development, three leading technology companies have joined forces to create a production reference design that promises to revolutionize automobile cabin safety and comfort. Eyeris Technologies, Inc., OMNIVISION, and Leopard Imaging, Inc. have partnered to showcase an advanced depth-aware Driver Monitoring System (DMS) and Occupant Monitoring System (OMS) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024.
Eyeris Technologies, headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a world leader in vision-based AI software for automotive in-cabin sensing. The company is renowned for its pioneering work in the field, having won several autotech awards, including "Best Cockpit of Future Technology," "Most Innovative In-Cabin Perception Application," and "Best Product for driver and occupants monitoring AI."
At the heart of this collaboration is Eyeris' monocular 3D sensing AI technology, which enables any 2D image sensor to provide valuable depth-aware whole-cabin sensing data. This technology is integrated into Leopard Imaging's 5-megapixel backside illuminated global shutter camera, thanks to the company's extensive camera design and manufacturing experience.
Leopard Imaging, an elite member of the NVIDIA Partner Network and a member of the AWS Partner Network, is a global leader in high-definition embedded cameras and AI-based imaging solutions. The company works closely with the most established sensor companies to produce advanced camera solutions for global customers. In this partnership, Leopard Imaging's commitment to pushing innovation boundaries for the future of automotive in-cabin sensing is evident.
OMNIVISION, a global fabless semiconductor organization, provides the key imaging components for this innovative system. The production reference design uses OMNIVISION's OX05B image sensor and OAX4600 image signal processor. OMNIVISION's OX05B sensor offers the best performance in extremely low light conditions, ensuring clear and accurate data even in the dimmest cabins.
Moreover, OMNIVISION's ISP processing technology and dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) ensure robust, latency-free image processing. The OAX4600 ISP processes Eyeris' monocular 3D sensing AI data, enabling the system to function seamlessly within the vehicle.
This partnership offers a turn-key solution for automotive customers, providing a unique combination of AI-based depth-aware DMS and OMS data. The collaboration between these three innovative companies promises to redefine in-cabin safety and comfort, setting a new standard for the automotive industry.
In a separate development, Valeo and BMW are collaborating on the development of a unique Production Reference Design for monocular 3D sensor technology in the automotive industry. This collaboration further underscores the growing importance of advanced in-cabin sensing technology in the automotive sector.
As these collaborations demonstrate, the future of automotive in-cabin sensing is bright, with innovative technologies promising to improve safety, comfort, and convenience for drivers and passengers alike.
