Expansion plan for twenty SmashVille burger eateries
SmashVille, a new burger chain founded by Fernando Costa, Duarte Costa, and Francisco Nobre Guedes, is making waves in Portugal with its plans for aggressive expansion. The company aims to have 20 SmashVille restaurants operational across the country by the end of 2026, doubling its presence from the current two stores [1][2].
The initial two stores, located at Atrium Saldanha and Amoreiras, have already been successful in providing a simple, fast, and tasty experience with fresh and premium ingredients. Each burger is made in front of the customer, ensuring a personalised touch.
In the initial phase, all SmashVille stores will be owned to maintain consistency in the product, service, and environment. However, the possibility of franchising to accelerate expansion will be evaluated at a later stage of the project.
SmashVille's ingredients are sourced from around the globe. The meat for the burgers comes from Italy, the bread from Pennsylvania (USA), and the potatoes from the Netherlands. The concept was inspired by the smash burger phenomenon in Italy.
The expansion is expected to create between 160 and 200 jobs by 2026. Each store generates between 8 and 10 direct jobs, with the first two stores already creating around 20 jobs.
Fernando Costa, one of the founders, has revealed plans to continue working on new openings this year and aims to have 20 stores operational by the end of 2026. The company is set to open three more stores in Almada Forum, CascaiShopping, and Campo Novo.
SmashVille is positioning itself as a clear, irreverent, and unpretentious brand with a strong visual image designed for the digital world. The founders aim to create a mass-market product with rapid growth potential.
The exact investment amount for this expansion was not specified, but an estimated initial investment for each SmashVille store is around two million euros. The founders remain tight-lipped about the number of jobs to be created in the upcoming stores.
SmashVille is not the first venture for its founders. Two of them were also partners in Poke House, a chain that is currently expanding with three new openings. Poke House was invested in by Poke House Italia, owned by Matteo Pichi and Vittoria Zanetti.
As SmashVille continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how it shapes the burger landscape in Portugal and beyond.
