Taipei Dangdai Art Fair Takes a Hiatus in 2026

The Taipei Dangdai art fair, a significant event in the Asian art world, will not be held in 2026. The organizers have announced a strategic re-evaluation, during which they will examine the model, timing, scale, and format of future activities[1][2][5].

The fair, which has previously attracted more than 90 participating galleries, including Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner, held its sixth edition in May of this year[3]. However, it seems that this year's edition marked a shift, with the number of participating galleries shrinking to 54, and no mega-galleries participating[4].

The first edition of Taipei Dangdai took place in January 2019 and was led by Magnus Renfrew[6]. The fair received financial support from UBS[7]. Information about previous editions has been removed from its website[2].

The organizers of Taipei Dangdai, The Art Assembly, also oversee two other Asia regional art fairs: Art SG in Singapore and Tokyo Gendai in Yokohama, Japan[1]. However, the current status of The Art Assembly and its other art fairs is unclear. The Art Assembly’s Instagram account appears to have been disabled, and the event no longer lists Taipei Dangdai on its website[1].

Angus Montgomery Arts (AMA), a principal and founding shareholder of these fairs, also collaborates with Creo Arts on Photofairs. The 2025 debut in Hong Kong and the following New York event were cancelled[1]. AMA's portfolio includes Art Central in Hong Kong (a concurrent event to Art Basel Hong Kong) and the India Art Fair in New Delhi, which are still noted as ongoing assets[1].

The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) recently announced it will not hold the 37th edition of The Art Show for 2025, citing a "strategic pause"[8].

Angus Montgomery Arts has stated that they are looking forward to the 2025 and 2026 editions of their established portfolio of 9 market-leading contemporary art fairs[9]. Despite the current uncertainty, it is hoped that these events will continue to provide a platform for artists and collectors to connect and engage with the art world.
