European claims department expansion: Michael Babington steps up as regional head for Chubb

Chubb, the global insurance giant, has announced the appointment of Michael Babington as the Head of Claims for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) effective November 1, 2025.

Michael Babington, an insurance executive with nearly two decades of industry experience, will be based in London and will succeed Richard Shanks in the role. Babington's extensive claims experience and deep knowledge of Chubb will drive the delivery of Chubb's market-leading claims service across the EMEA region.

Babington joins Chubb with a strong background in claims leadership roles. Before joining Chubb in 2012, he was a London-based lawyer specializing in Financial Lines claims. Prior to his role in Australia & New Zealand, he began his career with Chubb in Australia as a claims specialist within Financial Lines.

In his new role, Babington will report to Ana Robic, Regional President for EMEA, and will be responsible for overseeing the strategy and delivery of Chubb’s market-leading claims service across the EMEA region.

Ana Robic expressed confidence that Babington will continue to drive the delivery of Chubb's market-leading claims service. She stated, "Michael's extensive claims experience and deep knowledge of Chubb make him the ideal candidate for this role. I am confident that under his leadership, we will further enhance claims operations across the EMEA region."

Richard Shanks will continue in the role of Head of Claims for EMEA until November, ensuring a smooth transition for Babington. After November, Shanks will no longer be the Head of Claims for EMEA.

The appointment of Michael Babington is expected to further enhance claims operations across the EMEA region and cement Chubb's global reputation for service delivery. Babington holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Dundee.
