Enhancing Bengaluru Traffic by 25-30% in a Year: Plans from EaseMyTrip's Co-Founder Unveiled
Bengaluru, the tech capital of India, is known for its vibrant culture, bustling streets, and infamous traffic congestion. However, a businessman and co-founder of EaseMyTrip, Prashant Pitti, has proposed a comprehensive, collaborative plan to reduce traffic congestion by 25-30% within one year[1][2][3].
Pitti's approach involves bringing together key public and private stakeholders such as the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), City Police, Google India, IISc professors, scientists, road engineers, and traffic-tech entrepreneurs to work collectively on this issue[1][2][3][4].
The key elements of the plan include:
- Advanced Traffic Simulation Models and Artificial Intelligence: Pitti aims to use these tools to generate multiple rerouting options and reduce travel time. The models will make use of real-time data sourced from platforms like Uber, Ola, Rapido, and Google Maps to predict and prevent gridlocks before they occur[1][3].
- Implementing Technologies: Pitti plans to introduce technologies such as traffic simulators, enhanced complaint apps, hyperlocal rain predictors, and green wave signals to optimize traffic flow and responsiveness[2].
- Data Sharing: Pitti's plan involves facilitating data sharing among mobility companies and city authorities to enhance the accuracy of traffic predictions and enable proactive traffic management[1][3].
Initial progress has been marked by rapid stakeholder engagement and project initiation. Within just ten days of initiating this effort, Pitti has already met with senior officials from the relevant city agencies and private companies, secured cooperation, and initiated key projects like the deployment of AI-powered traffic simulations. Some data-sharing agreements with mobility platforms have been reached to support predictive modelling[1][3][4].
Pitti has also pledged ₹1 crore (approximately $125,000) towards this initiative, underscoring his commitment to solving Bengaluru's longstanding traffic issues[1][2][3].
One of the innovative projects Pitti is planning is a Hyperlocal Rain Predictor to fix drainage issues before they happen, reducing traffic congestion caused by road maintenance work during rain. He has also expressed a desire to avoid creating more Bengaluru traffic memes or rants, and instead focus on finding solutions[1][2].
The cost of auto rides in Bengaluru is set to increase from August 1, with base fares increased to Rs 36[5]. Despite this, Pitti's plan offers a glimmer of hope for Bengalureans tired of gridlocks and long commutes.
