Enhanced Safety Measures Implemented

In a unanimous decision made by the road authority, the district government, the police, and the Lippe district, Hornsche Straße is undergoing significant changes in its bicycle infrastructure. Dr. Müller, the chairman of the accident commission dealing with the redesign of the bicycle steering system, is leading these changes.

The most noticeable change for cyclists is the restriction of using pedestrian and cycle paths only in the direction of travel. This decision, aimed at enhancing safety, may require some adjustment, especially for students and regular commuters accustomed to the previous setup.

To accommodate this change, the mandatory use of both sides on Hornschen Street has been adjusted. The guidance for cyclists in the opposite direction is suspended, and the paths are exclusively for pedestrians. Markings and signs have been updated to reflect this new regulation.

Safety is the primary concern, according to Andreas Menke from our city portal. He acknowledges that the new regulation may cause initial inconvenience but emphasises the long-term benefits for the safety of cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Further improvements, such as additional crossing opportunities in the Spork-Eichholz area, are planned for the medium term. The results of this monitoring will be included in the medium-term plans for the expansion of the street.

Our city portal will continue to monitor the development on Hornschen Straße, ensuring that the changes are implemented smoothly and effectively, and that the safety and convenience of all users are maintained. The ultimate goal is to create a safer and more efficient cycling environment for everyone.
