Energy-saving houses have been introduced in Cambridgeshire

In a significant step towards sustainable living, Stonewater, a leading social housing provider, and WElink Homes have collaborated to deliver 46 energy-saving homes at Woodlands Chase in Main Street, Witchford, Cambridgeshire.

The new development includes 14 two and three-bedroom properties for affordable rent and shared ownership. These homes, a product of the innovative partnership between Stonewater and WElink Homes, have been engineered with a focus on energy efficiency and affordability.

The homes have achieved an impressive EPC 'A' rating, indicating they are highly energy-efficient. This impressive feat is due to the homes' numerous energy-saving features, such as solar panels, insulated wall panels and floor systems, energy-efficient roof design, double glazed windows, mechanical ventilation, and smart controls. These features reduce energy demand by up to 70% compared to traditional homes.

The collaboration between Stonewater and WElink Homes has been fruitful, with both organisations working closely to ensure the delivery of these affordable, energy-efficient homes. Chris Montague, Stonewater's Development Director (East and North), has expressed his excitement about the delivery of these new affordable homes. Adam Norton, UK head of land for WElink Homes, is equally proud, marking the first housing development in the UK created by WElink Homes.

The homes will provide residents with a well-insulated, warm, and low-maintenance living environment. Moreover, they will give residents more control over managing their energy costs, a feature that is particularly important in the current economic climate.

However, recent findings suggest that energy-efficient homes are too expensive to be purchased in the initial market. A report by Unison indicates that only wealthy people are able to secure homes with green upgrades. This development aims to address this issue by offering energy-efficient homes at an affordable price.

The UK faces a slow progress on green homes and will not meet its 2050 net-zero target, according to the same report by Unison. This project, therefore, marks a significant step towards the UK's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable living.

The project has also received support from the Cambridgeshire County Council, further underscoring its importance in the region. Stonewater has been a supportive stakeholder in this project, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable and affordable housing.

The homes are being efficiently assembled, with the production process allowing for less delay due to external factors such as bad weather. This efficient assembly process, combined with the homes' energy-saving features, makes them an attractive option for those seeking affordable, sustainable housing.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Stonewater and WElink Homes has resulted in a significant development of energy-efficient, affordable homes in Witchford, Cambridgeshire. This development is a step towards addressing the UK's slow progress on green homes and providing affordable, sustainable housing for all.
