Energy-efficient homes have arrived in Cambridgeshire, heralding a new era of sustainable living.
In a significant stride towards sustainable living, WElink Homes and Stonewater have joined forces to bring energy-efficient homes to the UK market. This new development, located at Woodlands Chase in Main Street, is one of the first of its kind in the country.
Recent findings suggest that energy-efficient homes, while boasting impressive energy-saving capabilities, are often too expensive for the initial market. However, the innovative financing strategies developed by KfW in Germany, such as combining credit commitments and subsidy approvals, are making these homes more accessible to a broader population.
The UK, unfortunately, is facing a 'painfully' slow progress on green homes, according to a report published by Unison earlier this month. The report claims that the country won't meet its emission reduction target by 80% as announced in 2019, and only wealthy people are able to secure homes with green upgrades.
However, the new development by WElink Homes and Stonewater aims to change this narrative. The homes, engineered at WElink's factory and delivered in sections, have various energy-saving features, including solar panels, insulated wall panels and floor systems, an energy-efficient roof design, double glazed windows, mechanical ventilation, and smart controls.
The homes have achieved an impressive EPC 'A' rating, which classifies them as having good energy performance. This means that these homes reduce energy demand by up to 70% compared to traditional homes.
Adam Norton, UK head of land for WElink Homes, expressed pride in the first housing development in the UK by WElink Homes. Chris Montague, Stonewater's Development Director (East and North), has expressed satisfaction at the delivery of the new affordable homes.
The development includes 14 two and three-bedroom properties for affordable rent and shared ownership, provided by Stonewater, a social housing provider. Dorin Seremet took the image for this article.
The new energy-saving homes will give residents more control over managing their energy costs, providing a sustainable and cost-effective living solution. While the UK still has a way to go to meet its net-zero target by 2050, initiatives like this by WElink Homes and Stonewater are a promising step in the right direction.
