Tomsk saw a surge of more than a thousand new business entities in 2024, according to Igor Branishte, the business ombudsman for the region. He shared this during a press conference at RIA Tomsk's media center.
"We've seen an increase of around 1,000 economic subjects over the past two years - that's about 500 more than last year," Branishte said, adding that the growth is primarily among individual entrepreneurs. Furthermore, data for 2024 indicates a significant increase in self-employed individuals, with their numbers rising by approximately 31% (nearly 80,000 people), according to Branishte. He also noted that the current number of economic subjects in the region stands at over 41,000.
Businessmen in Tomsk attempted to resolve conflicts through mediators five times in 2024[1], and this year, the percentage of companies experiencing administrative pressure decreased from 47.31% to 11.54%. In the regional "Index of Administrative Pressure" ranking, Tomsk rose from 79th to 53rd place.
In addition, the prosecutor's office rejected a significant portion of requests from controlling organizations for both unplanned (75%) and planned (82%) business inspections in 2024. The proportion of preventive measures in the control and supervision activity increased by 35%, and the number of issued warnings increased by 25%.
Although the exact numbers for the growth of individual entrepreneurs and self-employed businesses in Tomsk for 2024 were not specified in search results, the regional activity in technology-driven sectors and the interest of over 30 large organizations across various industries such as oil and gas, power, forestry, and agriculture indicate a positive trend in business development[5]. This suggests increased entrepreneurship and self-employment motivated by emerging market opportunities in the region.
Therefore, Tomsk's business landscape in 2024 transitions through dynamic growth, particularly fueled by the region’s participation in high-tech industries and innovation-driven enterprises, presumably including rises in individual entrepreneurial and self-employed ventures.
