Dubai's First Hydroelectric Plant to Power Homes by End of 2023
Dubai is set to make history with the Middle East's first hydroelectric plant. The Hatta project, a regional first, will harness the power of water and sun to generate clean energy and contribute to Dubai's power grid.
The innovative project, led by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), combines water storage and renewable solar energy. Solar power will drive pumps to move water between reservoirs, storing it in the mountainous terrain of Hatta. When electricity is needed, the stored water will be released to spin turbines, generating up to 250 megawatts of clean energy.
The plant's capacity is sufficient to meet Hatta's energy needs and contribute surplus power to Dubai. This groundbreaking initiative could inspire similar developments across the Middle East, promoting sustainability and clean energy.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2023, the Hatta hydroelectric plant will power homes and businesses in Dubai. The project, along with DEWA's other innovative building projects like the Al Sheraa building, underscores Dubai's commitment to net-zero emissions and sustainable development.
