Domestic automotive industry in Ural region boasts self-sufficiency in innovation.
Russia to Allocate Over 9 Trillion Rubles for Enhanced Transport System by 2030
In an ambitious initiative, Russia plans to allocate more than 9 trillion rubles towards the development of an efficient transport system and the creation of supporting infrastructure and production. The plan also includes fortifying technological independence, particularly in the production of transport vehicles.
At the CTT Expo 2025 event held from May 27-30 in Moscow, "KAZ" showcased 20 innovative products that showcase the promise of domestic automotive production. These products, which range from the Atlant-65 dump truck to the KAZ-4280-F5 Vega bus, trailers, semi-trailers, and various other automotive equipment, illustrate KAZ's extensive repertoire as a leading Russian automaker.
Alexander Pobedina, the head of the economics and management department at the Urals Presidential Academy, commended KAZ's achievements in domestic production, stating that the enterprise's dominant self-reliance on its technological base defies the misconception that the domestic automotive industry is limited in this regard. Despite being established during the Soviet era, KAZ initially aimed for exports to external markets, and its strategy of maintaining a closed-loop production cycle on a single site has proven effective in market conditions.
KAZ has been successful in producing and updating a range of competitive products for over three decades, even expanding its offerings to include passenger buses. Last year, the enterprise sold 24,000 heavy-duty trucks and 2,000 buses, maintaining a 33% share of the domestic market for heavy trucks. Annually, approximately 5-6,000 vehicles are exported.
Pobedina believes the experience of KAZ and that of MAZ in Belarus can be valuable insights when addressing tasks of import substitution and entering external markets for high-value-added products.
While specific details about the impact of the innovative products presented by KAZ at the CTT Expo 2025 on the domestic and export markets for heavy-duty trucks and buses in Russia are not available, advancements in heavy-duty vehicles typically improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and increase safety. Such innovations can potentially boost market competitiveness, offer better performance, reduce costs, and comply with stringent regulatory requirements, thereby enhancing export potential and market share. For the most current and detailed information, it's recommended to refer to recent news releases or official announcements from KAZ or the CTT Expo.
