India's Longest Freight Train Breaks Records
The Indian Railways have made history yet again by operating the longest freight train in the country, named "Rudrastra." The train, approximately 4.5 kilometers long and composed of 354 wagons, broke the record set earlier this year by the Super Vasuki train.
The Rudrastra train journeyed from Ganjkhwaja station in Uttar Pradesh to Garhwa Road station in Jharkhand, covering a distance of around 200 kilometers. The train was powered by seven locomotives, with two of them attached at the front. The train traveled at an average speed of 40 kilometers per hour, completing the journey in about 5 hours.
The East Central Railway believes that the successful operation of Rudrastra is a testament to the coordination between its departments. The railway authorities also claim that this record train showcases the Indian Railways' higher working capacity and efficient management.
Running multiple goods trains together, such as Rudrastra, can save significant time compared to running them separately. This operation reduces manpower, scheduling complexity, and operational costs.
The Rudrastra train is longer than the longest platforms of Hubbali Junction (1.5 kms) and Gorakhpur Junction (1.3 kms). Despite breaking the Indian record, the global record for the longest freight train is still held by Australia’s BHP, whose train is 7.3 km long with 682 wagons.
The Rudrastra train represents a significant advancement in freight logistics and rail infrastructure in India. With the successful operation of trains like Rudrastra, the speed and capacity of freight transportation are expected to increase, revolutionizing the way goods are transported across the country.
