Diesel prices to decrease, petrol prices to increase

Portugal sees adjustments in fuel prices ahead

Based on recent forecasts, Portugal is set to experience a slight adjustment in fuel prices as of next week. According to the Automóvel Club de Portugal, the price of diesel will drop by one cent, while the cost of petrol will increase by 0.5 cents.

As of May 26, 2025, the price of diesel stands at approximately €1.52 per liter, marking a minor decrease from its May 16 price of €1.503 per liter. Petrol, on the other hand, currently costs around €1.69 per liter, having risen from €1.668 per liter on May 16.

Should the current forecasts hold true, the average price of diesel could potentially drop to €1.499 per liter, while the cost of regular 95 gasoline may rise to €1.667 per liter.

The forecasts in question are based on the assumption that the extraordinary tax reduction measures initiated by the government to combat price increases will persist. However, it's worth noting that the recent decrease in diesel prices may indicate a shift in market conditions or alterations in government policies.

The forecasted adjustments in fuel prices in Portugal might influence various sectors, such as the transport industry, due to the potential impact on operating costs. Meanwhile, the expected increase in petrol prices could signal a shift in the country's energy financing dynamics, possibly affecting investments in renewable energy sources.
