Chromik Jumps Ship from Commerzbank to Deutsche Bank, Filling Vigneron's Shoes
Frankfurt
Deutsche Bank appoints Chromik to its board of directors.
Just a day after leaving Unicredit's board, Marcus Chromik, a physics graduate, has revealed his next destination: Deutsche Bank, where he'll step into the role of risk division lead, effective May. Olivier Vigneron, the current holder of this position, opted not to renew his contract, according to the institution.
Closing that Dirty Little Secret
Chromik's career switch seems to shut the book on a questionable chapter of his professional history. Whether by coincidence or not, the Kiel native joined Unicredit's supervisory board following a mere moment's pause in April. Interestingly, Deutsche Bank swooped in a few months later—riding the wave of the federal government's partial exit—to snatch matters away from Commerzbank. The extent to which Chromik was embroiled in this power play remains shrouded in mystery. Unicredit claims he was purposefully kept out of the discussions to skirt conflicts of interest. Regardless, the timing wasn't exactly auspicious, given Chromik's nearly 15-year tenure with Commerzbank.
Kudos from Sewing
In a statement issued Thursday, Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing voiced his approval of Chromik as a highly esteemed risk manager and a respected leader. He stated, "Chromik's experience will aid us in fortifying our risk management at a pivotal moment when the global economy is grappling with significant challenges."
A Fond Farewell to Vigneron
Sewing also extended gratitude to outgoing risk chief Vigneron, acknowledging his dedication and camaraderie. Vigneron had joined Deutsche Bank from French investment bank Natixis in 2022. Before that, he served J.P. Morgan for over a decade, holding roles such as risk manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and risk executive for market risks within the group.
