Destruction process at the old local government building headquarters
The former Kreiswehrersatzamt in Siegen's Tiergartenstraße is set to undergo a significant transformation, becoming a new urban district known as "Tiergarten Siegen." This project aims to create a mixed-use area with residential apartments, commercial spaces, and amenities, enhancing the urban fabric of Siegen.
The development involves both the renovation of the existing historic building and the construction of new buildings on the site. The renovation will focus on preserving the character of the former military building while adapting it for modern use, complemented by contemporary new construction designed to blend with the surrounding environment.
The overall goal is to establish a vibrant, attractive neighborhood that provides high-quality living and working spaces. Construction and renovation work have been planned to proceed in phases, with the main construction works expected to start soon. The full development, including renovation and new builds, is projected to be completed within a few years, typically around a 3- to 5-year timeframe from the start of construction.
The left part of the former Kreiswehrersatzamt will be rebuilt and will house a kindergarten and twelve apartments. On the other hand, the right part of the building will become the new home of the KulturIntegrationsQuartier (KiQ). The aim is to complete the renovation of the middle part of the former Kreiswehrersatzamt for housing up to 200 refugees by an unspecified date, while the left part is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Asbestos removal is currently taking place at the former Kreiswehrersatzamt, and demolition of a building section is underway. Meanwhile, the "KiQ," currently located in the Hammerhütte on Koblenzer Straße, will be moving to the former Kreiswehrersatzamt.
The KiQ currently hosts around 25 volunteer associations and groups using it as an event venue. Wolfgang Cavelius, a local official, refers to the renovated middle part of the former Kreiswehrersatzamt as a "buffer" for potential increases in refugee numbers.
This transformation of the former Kreiswehrersatzamt into Tiergarten Siegen promises to bring a dynamic and integrated urban space to Siegen, offering a blend of history and modernity, community and commerce, and housing and culture.
Radio broadcasts may discuss the transformation of the former Kreiswehrersatzamt in Siegen's Tiergartenstraße, becoming a new urban district known as "Tiergarten Siegen." Financiers and investors may find interest in this project, given the potential for profitable investments in the housing-market and real-estate sectors due to the creation of residential apartments, modern office spaces, and commercial areas as part of this development.
