Designers plot blueprints for Garath Children's Settlement
In the heart of Düsseldorf, where Matthias-Erzberger-Straße intersects with Frankfurter Straße, a striking architectural marvel grabs attention. Acclaimed by the jury as a landmark that puts the local community front and center, this masterpiece by architectural giants Kresings (Düsseldorf) is making waves as a buzzing hub for the multicultural neighborhood.
The Architecture Is Vienna (AIV) counted this project among the best of seven recently completed buildings in the Rhine metropolis. The SOS Children's Village, the historic Plage Mill silos renovation in the harbor, the ECD-Eclipse office high-rise in Derendorf, as well as the office and business buildings at Joachim-Erwin-Platz 3, Berliner Allee 26 and the Vertikum, Berliner Allee 23 were also part of the shortlist. The Schlueterstraße tram stop in Grafenberg was the last contender in the prize procedure, which has been running for the past 13 years.
Awarding the project, AIV chairman Dieter Schmoll praised its unique dual interpretation of a village. The building complex on the opposite side of the street houses residential groups, while a second complex groups all communal uses around a public square adorned by a majestic, centuries-old oak tree. With barrier-free accessibility and openness to the street and a neighboring playground, this building serves as a beacon for social interaction and unity.
This architectural marvel in Düsseldorf, recognized as a landmark for its community-centric design, has also caught the attention of The Architecture Is Vienna (AIV), being one of the best among seven recently completed buildings in the Rhine metropolis. Notable mentions include the SOS Children's Village, the renovated Plage Mill silos, the ECD-Eclipse office high-rise, various office and business buildings, and the Schlueterstraße tram stop. However, this project stands out for its unique blend of residential and communal spaces, making it an ideal location for real-estate investing and fostering social unity through finance.
