New Collaboration: MoMA Design Store and Champion Release Retro-Inspired Collection

The MoMA Design Store and athleticwear brand Champion have partnered to release a five-piece collection that puts a modern twist on classic designs. Inspired by Champion's heritage as a nearly 100-year-old institution, the new collection draws from the garments and graphics that have defined generations of branded apparel.

This isn't the first time the MoMA Design Store has collaborated with Champion. In 2017, they worked together for the "Items: Is Fashion Modern?" exhibition, which featured a Champion hooded sweatshirt from the 1980s. The MoMA Design Store credits Champion with creating the modern hoodie in the 1930s.

The new collection includes a hooded jacket, baseball T-shirt, cardigan, bomber jacket, and sweatshirt, all available in sizes S to XL and priced between $45 and $145. The products are currently available while supplies last, and may be restocked based on customer demand.

The MoMA Design Store drew inspiration for the new collection from Champion's New York archives and custom facilities in Kansas City. The collaboration is meant to pay homage to Champion's legacy of custom and collegiate apparel.

The company Guess? acquired Champion from HanesBrands at the beginning of September 2025, and it has since announced new licensees after the takeover. This story has been updated to reflect the correct name of the MoMA Design Store.

Fashion brands partnering with museums on gift shop items is not a new concept. Earlier this year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art collaborated with bag brand Sprayground on a line inspired by the museum's collection. The Met also has an ongoing collaboration with retailer Pacsun.

The new collection from the MoMA Design Store and Champion is now available at the MoMA Design Store in New York and through its e-commerce website. Whether you're a fan of Champion's classic styles or looking to add a piece of design history to your wardrobe, this collection is worth checking out.
