Delay in the revamp of Cadolzburg's local transport infrastructure - Enhanced transportation blueprints temporarily held off
## Cadolzburg Town Center Bypass Expansion: Improving Accessibility and Promoting Sustainable Transport
The much-anticipated Cadolzburg town center bypass expansion is set to commence in mid-2024, following a six-month delay due to unforeseen technical assessments, extended environmental impact studies, and bureaucratic approvals. The €15 million project, funded by a combination of municipal funds, state subsidies, and EU regional development grants, aims to enhance traffic flow, promote sustainable transport options, and reduce environmental impact on nearby residential areas.
The expansion project is divided into six construction phases, each designed to minimize disruptions and ensure efficient workflow. Phase 1, scheduled for three months, involves clearing, relocation of utilities, and setting up temporary traffic management. This will be followed by roadbed construction and bridge work in Phase 2, excavation, foundation laying, and any required bridge or culvert construction. Phase 3, lasting four months, includes asphalt laying, road markings, signage installation, and landscaping adjacent areas. In Phase 4, lasting two months, the installation of lighting, pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, and connection to existing road networks will take place.
The total construction period is projected to last approximately 15 months from the revised start date, setting the estimated project completion around late 2025. To accommodate businesses and maintain accessibility during construction, the project has been designed to avoid full closure of the state road 2409.
In addition to the road renovation, the sewage system and water pipes must be completely renewed. The planning of the heating supply is currently being driven forward with high pressure. Repeated water pipe bursts in the past have posed challenges, but these are being addressed as part of the renovation project.
The expansion will also bring about several upgrades to improve traffic flow and local accessibility. New and improved traffic control systems at key intersections, such as traffic signals and roundabouts, will prevent congestion. Expanded sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes will promote safer and sustainable transport options. Enhanced bus stops with shelters and real-time information displays will improve public transport access. Green buffers and noise barriers along the bypass will reduce environmental impact on nearby residential areas.
A southern detour towards Ammerndorf and a northern detour connecting to Fürth and federal road B8 will be established during the construction. The Free State of Bavaria will cover corresponding cost shares for the road renovation. The market Cadolzburg can expect a subsidy of 60 to 70 percent for the municipal costs.
Negotiations with neighboring property owners for the use of closer areas have proven successful, ensuring that the storage and excavation areas are more conveniently located. The work on the sewage system and water pipes is complicated by the high-standing rock in the subsoil, but these challenges are being addressed as part of the project.
