Danish retail corporation set to acquire Rimi Baltic
Salling Group Expands Retail Operations in the Baltics with Acquisition of Rimi Baltic
The Salling Group, the largest retailer in Denmark, has announced its acquisition of Rimi Baltic, a major grocery retailer operating in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The deal, while the exact sale price remains undisclosed, is considered the biggest transaction in the Baltics this decade, indicating a significant value involved.
The acquisition includes 314 Rimi stores across the three countries, as well as the company's distribution centres and warehouses. This move is part of Salling Group's broader strategy to expand its retail presence, which currently totals around 2,100 stores and employs 68,000 people across several countries.
The deal also aligns with Salling Group's integration of various brands and franchise chains. This includes toy store chain BR, fast-food chain Carl's Jr., coffee giant Starbucks, and supermarket chains Bilka, Netto, and the former Rimi Baltic stores.
In addition to physical retail stores, the acquisition also includes Rimi Baltic's e-commerce platform, further strengthening Salling Group's digital presence.
The European Commission has approved ICA Gruppen's divestment of Rimi Baltic to Salling Group, paving the way for the acquisition.
With a workforce of more than 11,000 employees in the Baltics, the acquisition is expected to provide significant growth opportunities for Salling Group in the region. The details of the financial aspects of the deal, however, remain undisclosed.
