Customs Seize Six Puppies in EU Animal Welfare Violation

Customs officers on the A8 motorway at Leipheim discovered six puppies, aged eight to sixteen weeks, in two cat transport boxes on a Sprinter van with Moldovan plates. The puppies, en route from Moldova to Belgium, were found to be in good health but infested with ticks. The driver could not provide necessary documents for the animals, leading to their seizure and care by the local animal shelter.

The puppies' journey was abruptly halted due to severe animal welfare violations and non-compliance with EU regulations. The Veterinary Office Günzburg confirmed the lack of required vaccinations and the insufficient size of the transport boxes. The puppies, now in the care of the animal shelter in Günzburg, will undergo quarantine and receive necessary vaccinations before being rehomed to new owners. The driver of the Sprinter vehicle, whose name was not disclosed, could not present any customs or veterinary documents for the animals, leading to the initiation of administrative offense proceedings.

The puppies, rescued from a potentially dangerous and illegal transport, are now receiving proper care and attention. They will soon be available for adoption, giving them a second chance at a healthy and loving home. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper animal welfare and adherence to regulations when transporting pets across borders.
