Customs Cracks Down on Heating Oil Dieselization in Aachen
The Main Customs Office Aachen has noticed a rise in cases involving heating oil used in diesel vehicles, a practice known as 'heating oil dieselization'. This illegal activity, which can result in severe penalties, is becoming more prevalent in the district.
Transport companies have been found attempting to gain an unfair advantage by using heating oil in diesel vehicles. To conceal this, one vehicle owner even resorted to painting the diesel filter with color. However, customs officers can take fuel samples and charge tax for the entire tank capacity if heating oil is detected. This illegal practice not only allows drivers to avoid paying taxes but also causes engine damage and increases pollutant emissions. Heating oil is marked with a red dye to distinguish it from diesel fuel, making it easier for authorities to identify its use.
The Main Customs Office Aachen is cracking down on this illegal practice. Those found guilty of heating oil dieselization face severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to five years or a fine. The use of heating oil in diesel vehicles is a criminal offense and is strongly discouraged.
