Customs Conducts Massive Industry Check: 1,600 Cases Require Further Action
On Tuesday, customs officers conducted a large-scale check on the freight forwarding, transport, and logistics industry. Over 6,500 people were interviewed, and around 600 business record checks were carried out.
The checks, led by the Financial Control of Black Work of the Customs (FKS), targeted illegal employment of foreigners, improper receipt of social security benefits, compliance with the Minimum Wage Act, and the Employee Posting Act. Around 3,000 employees from all main customs offices were involved nationwide. The checks were risk-oriented but fundamentally suspicion-independent, involving interviews with persons and checks of business records with employers.
The FKS will carry out extensive follow-up checks by comparing data collected from employees with companies' payroll and financial accounting, and further business records. This will help secure social security systems and state revenues, ensuring fair working and competitive conditions. More than 1,600 cases require further checks, with around 130 cases resulting in criminal proceedings and over 160 in administrative offense proceedings.
The customs followed a holistic approach, covering various aspects of employment and social security compliance. The checks significantly contribute to maintaining fair working conditions and protecting state revenues. Despite the extensive checks, no publicly known list of controlled companies has been released due to data protection and ongoing procedures.
