Currency Slip in Belarus - Midweek Downturn for the Belarusian Ruble
In a significant development, the Belarusian authorities have commissioned a decision to accept yellow-stained banknotes without a fee, a resolution that is likely to be published in June 2023. This decision, however, is not final and requires further verification.
On September 17, the exchange rates for several currencies were announced. The exchange rate for the Russian ruble stood at Br3.6466 for ₽100, a slight decrease of 0.02 kopecks. The dollar, on the other hand, saw a 0.6 kopecks increase, with the exchange rate at Br3.0419 for $1. The euro also experienced a rise, with the exchange rate at Br3.5951 for €1, an increase of 0.4 kopecks. The yuan, too, saw an increase of 0.6 kopecks, and the exchange rate was Br4.2454 for ¥10 on that day. Trading on September 17 included the euro, dollar, yuan, and Belarusian Ruble, as well as the Russian ruble.
The banknotes in question have been found to glow under ultraviolet light, leading to a study being ordered at the Academy of Sciences to determine the cause of the mold on the banknotes. The study is investigating the influence of microelements or biological structures on the preservation of the banknotes.
Preliminary conclusions suggest that the presence of elements visible only in the ultraviolet spectrum will not be a limitation for accepting such banknotes. However, the National Bank of Belarus is considering accepting banknotes with mold without a commission, but once the decision is adopted, it will be communicated to the banks.
It's important to note that no information has been provided about any changes in the mortgage rates prior to September 17, or about where to find the most favorable mortgage rates. As this situation develops, further updates will be provided.
