Astonishing Increase in Oil Shipments Through Caspian Pipeline Consortium
ASTANA — The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) is set to significantly boost oil shipments to a record-breaking 1 billion tons by October 2025, according to plans unveiled by the CPC.
This ambitious expansion is the result of the implementation of the CPC Oil Pipeline Bottleneck Elimination Project (CPC BOEP).
On May 26, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov met with Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) Director General Nikolay Gorban to discuss the advancement of oil transportation and the consortium's initiatives regarding social responsibility in Kazakhstan. According to the Prime Minister's press service, the discussion also encompassed the modernization of the Tengiz-Novorossiysk pipeline.
Gorban reported on the completion of restoration work and the commissioning of the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station. The construction of a new jumper between the CPC oil pipeline and the Kasymov oil pumping station of KazTransOil, scheduled for 2024, served to strengthen the system and enable an increase in pumping volumes from 67 to 81.5 million tons per year. Remarkably, the capacity on the Kazakhstan section specifically has been amplified from 53.7 to 72.5 million tons per year.
Bektenov emphasized the importance of the CPC oil pipeline to Kazakhstan's oil export efforts, stressing the government's dedication to maintaining uninterrupted operation.
The CPC has been actively engaged in a variety of social projects within Kazakhstan, including the construction of a school accommodating 900 students in Atyrau. Over the past year, 4.4 billion tenge (US$8.6 million) have been allocated to these projects, with plans to fortify educational and medical infrastructure in the near future.
The CPC pipeline network remains one of the most prominent projects in the regional energy sector, extending over 1,511 kilometers. In the period from January to April, 23.9 million tons of oil were transported via the CPC pipeline, accounting for 21.5 million tons from Kazakhstan.
The enlarged capacity through the CPC is projected to enable the consortium to meet its 1 billion tons target within the stipulated timeframe.
