The A24 road, a vital link for commuters between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein, will face disruptions starting September 25th. This is due to urgent road surface repairs over approximately ten kilometers, necessitated by severe Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR).

ASR, often dubbed 'concrete disease', is a process where the concrete's integrity breaks down. This degradation has led to deterioration of the A24 road surface, as explained by Ronald Normann, director of the North-East branch of the Federal Highway Company. Consequences of ASR include roadway collapses and chunks breaking off, posing potential traffic safety hazards.

To address this issue, six weeks of construction are planned under full road closure for the affected area on the A24. During this period, the existing concrete roadway will be covered with an asphalt top layer. Even replacement buses, used by some commuters due to longer travel times with the closure, will be affected, as they utilize the A24 highway.

The Federal Highway Authority has announced this repair work, expected to last until November 8th. This news follows the eight-month closure of the Berlin-Hamburg railway line, causing disruptions for commuters from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Hamburg.

It's worth noting that a speed limit has already been imposed between Zarrentin and Gallin in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. However, search results do not provide information about the name of the person responsible for the Northeast Division of the Federal Highway Company involved in the A24 construction project between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein.

The A24 road towards Hamburg will experience disruptions, with the affected area fully closed, rerouting traffic onto one lane of the Berlin-Hamburg roadway. Commuters are advised to plan alternative routes or allow extra travel time during this period.
