Construction site alert in Karlsruhe - All related closures now in sight
With the summer holidays drawing to a close, the city of Karlsruhe is gearing up for a series of significant infrastructure improvements.
The State Transport Authority (AVG) has completed its works between Ettlingen and Ittersbach, paving the way for the S11 line to resume regular service. Ten new switches and a track lubrication system have been installed as part of these works, aiming to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the line.
The city's public transport company, the Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK), has also been busy with their major infrastructure projects. They have completed their works and invested around 4.5 million euros in the modernization of the junction at Tullastraße/Durlacher Allee and the rail infrastructure at the intersection of Ebertstraße/Karlstraße. The VBK's technical managing director, Christian Höglmeier, expressed his gratitude to passengers for their understanding and patience during the construction phase.
However, construction sites remain in Karlsruhe, with several key projects still underway. The Zirkel between Ritterstraße and Lammstraße will be under construction until July 14, 2026. During this period, the detour will be via the Schlossplatz.
From September 8, the Rintheimer Querallee between Theodor-Heuss-Allee and Büchiger Allee will be fully closed, lasting until October 10. This closure is followed by nighttime closures for the Karoline-Luise-Tunnel from October 13 to 17, each night from 8 pm to 6 am. The Markgrafenstraße between Kreuzstraße and Rondellplatz will be fully closed until October 31.
In addition, the Schlossplatztunnel will remain partially closed from east to west until at least October 26, with detours via the Adenauerring. The Edeltrudtunnel will be completely closed from November 24 to 28, each night from 10 pm to 5 am. Detours for the Markgrafenstraße closure will be via the Kriegs- or Hebelstraße.
The public company responsible for carrying out these postponed highway construction projects in Karlsruhe in autumn 2021 is the Südwest branch of the Autobahn GmbH. They have been working on major projects including expansions and bridge constructions since October 2021.
These construction works are intended to relieve Karlsruhe's traffic in the future, marking an investment in the city's future infrastructure. As the city continues to grow, these improvements are crucial in ensuring that its transport system can keep pace with its development.
