Revamped Rhine Rail Modernization Kicks Off May 20

Rail revamp initiatives along the left Rhine River commencing from 20th May onward - Construction projects set to commence on the west side of the Rhine River, initiating on 20th May.

Hey there! 🤙🚂

Get ready for some major changes on the left bank of the Rhine as the German Railway is about to modernize its infrastructure! From May 20, the Koblenz - Mainz-Mombach section will undergo a radical makeover, following the initial works around Koblenz from May 2 to 19.

The modernization plan includes renewing tracks and switches, upgrading bridges, implementing rockfall protection measures, unexploded ordnance detection, and even erecting noise protection walls! 🤯💥️🔨

But here's the twist: to minimize disturbances during the construction, the German Railway is going to "build under the rolling wheel" and work at night wherever possible! 🌃️🛤️ That means they'll try to carry out most of the work without interrupting regular rail traffic.

Yet, certain track sections may have to be partially or fully closed, especially during track works or when special equipment is used. No worries, though! The German Railway will make every effort to keep you rolling or offer alternative services during construction. 🤝️🚌

What's in it for regional and long-distance travel?

Between Koblenz Central Station and Bingen Central Station, line RE 2 trains may only run partially relying on replacement buses during the construction stages. The Middle Rhine Railway will operate with altered timetables during the day and night replacement traffic. 🚗🚏

In long-distance traffic, trains between Cologne and Mainz will continue to run at least every two hours, albeit with detours. Bingen Central Station will not be served by long-distance trains during construction, but don't worry! Alternative connections via Frankfurt Airport are readily available. 🌍🛫

  1. The modernization of the Rhine Rail could provide an opportunity for the community to implement policies that support vocational training programs in the transportation industry, possibly funding them through finance raised during the project.
  2. With the revamped Rhine Rail modernization, there could be a need for vocational training programs in the industry to ensure trained personnel are available for maintaining and operating the new and improved transportation infrastructure.
