Construction of the new bus terminal in Füssen is predominantly financed by a significant portion of funds
The city of Füssen is making significant strides in the rebuilding of its outdated central bus station, the Füssen ZOB. The project, which aims to start construction in 2026, has received backing from the Free State of Bavaria.
Mayor Maximilian Eichstetter and engineer Sebastian Klinger traveled to Munich to discuss funding for the rebuild with Bavarian authorities. The Füssen ZOB, located at Füssen station, has been a subject of criticism for its dilapidated condition for many years.
The rebuild is eligible for funding according to BayGVFG with a maximum funding rate of 75 percent of the eligible costs. However, efforts are underway to secure additional funding to increase this rate up to 90 percent.
To cover the city's own contributions partially or completely, the city administration has applied for stabilization aid. The binding funding application for the rebuild must be submitted by mid-September 2025.
Central questions about funding for the project were clarified at a funding meeting in the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Building and Transport. A funding decision is expected by December 2025 to allow the project to commence in 2026.
The estimated construction cost for the rebuild has been reduced significantly, from 10 million euros to 3.5 million euros. The new construction of the ZOB will be funded with a maximum cost rate of 6,000 euros per running meter.
Mayor Eichstetter emphasizes that funding is only given to those who make an advance payment for the rebuild. The rebuild is a project being undertaken by the city of Füssen, with the Free State of Bavaria providing heavy funding.
