Commencement of the massive financial undertaking impending.
Altwarp's New Fire Station Nears Completion
The small municipality of Altwarp, home to around 440 inhabitants, is making significant strides in improving its fire services. The town is contributing approximately 936,000 euros of its own funds towards a new fire station, which is nearing completion.
The total cost of the project is approximately 1.656 million euros. The new building will be located close to the existing fire station on Nordstraße, between Altwarp and Altwarp settlement. The construction start for the new fire station was planned for the 32nd calendar week.
The building permit for the project has been in place since last year. The new fire station will be constructed in solid masonry and will provide space for the fire engine, team transport vehicle, pump trailer, and boat. Each firefighter will have two lockers in the new station.
The current fire station does not meet modern fire station requirements as criticized by the Hanseatic Fire Protection Insurance (HFUK). Once the new fire station is completed, the defects criticized by the HFUK in the old fire station will be rectified.
The project has been actively pursued by Mayor Jan Herzfeld for the past three years. The municipality of Altwarp received a special grant of 500,000 euros from the state. The cost of two parking spaces is 220,000 euros.
It is important to note that small German communities, like Altwarp, fund their volunteer fire brigades and stations primarily through local community funds. The exact amount of funding can vary widely depending on the size of the community, the category of the fire brigade, and regional budgets. Public fire brigades for larger towns and cities receive funding by law, but this does not directly translate to small communities.
In the new fire station, a strict separation of recreation and social rooms from changing and storage rooms is required. Showers are necessary in the new station for firefighters to wash after deployments. If earthworks are not started in September, it may be difficult to complete the new fire station by winter.

Further precise budget figures would likely require local government budget reports or case-specific data from German municipalities.
The municipality of Altwarp is gathering funds from various sources for the new fire station, including local contributions and a 500,000 euro special grant from the state. This new fire station, almost completed, will not only serve as a modern facility for the fire department but also cater to the finance and industry sectors with its strategic location near Nordstraße.
