Birtat and NGG Negotiations: Wage Increase Dispute at the Doner Kebab Factory

The collective bargaining negotiations between the Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) and Birtat, a leading doner kebab skewer supplier based in Murr near Ludwigsburg, Germany, are currently underway. The discussions revolve around wage increases for the factory's approximately 115 employees.

NGG's Demands

The NGG is advocating for a 12% wage increase for the workers at Birtat. This demand is aimed at enhancing the income and working conditions of the employees.

Employer's Stance

However, Birtat, a part of Meat World SE and the largest manufacturer of doner kebab skewers in Baden-Württemberg, has rejected the 12% wage increase demand. The employer argues that such an increase is not feasible from their financial standpoint, viewing the proposed raise as too high.

Negotiations Progress

Despite the initial disagreement, the negotiations between the union and the employer are showing signs of progress. The employer has expressed a willingness to negotiate a collective agreement with the NGG's collective bargaining committee.

The planned warning strikes have been temporarily suspended until Thursday, when the negotiations are scheduled to take place.

Notable Achievements

The employer's willingness to negotiate is being hailed as a significant step in the right direction by NGG's negotiator, Magdalena Krüger. She stated that this move away from the previous intransigent position is a positive development.

Birtat supplies more than 13 million consumers monthly, reaching thousands of snack bars across Germany. The company's operations are not limited to doner kebabs, as it also supplies various other snack products.

These negotiations are of great importance to the workers at Birtat, who are hoping for improved wages and working conditions. The outcome of these negotiations will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the company and its employees, as well as the broader doner kebab industry in Germany.
