Car manufacturer Audi will commence pre-sales of the E5 Sportback model in China on August 18.
The Audi E5 Sportback, a new all-electric performance SUV, is set to hit the market, boasting a combination of high power, long range, rapid charging, and modern luxury features. This B-class Sportback, based on the AUDI E concept, is the latest offering from the Audi brand, a joint venture between Volkswagen's premium car brand Audi and SAIC, which was launched in November 2024.
The E5 Sportback will be produced at SAIC Audi's Audi production base. It offers four trims with motor outputs ranging from 220 kW to a top variant with an impressive 579 kW (approx. 776 horsepower), surpassing even the European Audi e-tron GT S in power. The car uses an 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging, with the capability to regain about 230 miles (370 km) of range in just 10 minutes of charging. Its maximum range on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle is about 478 miles (770 km).
For the US market, the Audi E5 Sportback reportedly includes a 100 kWh battery pack offering an estimated 340 miles of EPA range. Fast charging can deliver about 80% charge in under 25 minutes using a 270 kW DC fast charger. The vehicle features a luxurious interior with a digital OLED touchscreen of 14.5 inches, haptic controls, voice assistants, and sustainable materials for seats and trims.
The E5 Sportback, similar in design to the Nio ET5 Touring, is an all-electric midsize vehicle with a shooting brake-style B-class Sportback configuration. It is built on the Advanced Digitized Platform electric vehicle platform. The car made its debut at the 2025 Shanghai auto show and will begin pre-sales on August 18, with the official launch scheduled for the end of this summer.
