CallMiner Report Warns of Surge in Deepfake Scams Worldwide
A recent report by CallMiner reveals a surge in spam calls worldwide, with a significant increase in deepfake scams. The study, released in Q1 2025, paints a concerning picture of voice-based fraud.
Spam call volumes varied greatly by country. Germans received an average of three calls per person per month, while those in Brazil and Chile faced 28. Between Q3 and Q4 of 2024, there was a notable rise in unwanted calls, including nuisance calls and scams. Out of 11.3 billion calls recorded, 22% were nuisance calls and 9% were fraudulent.
The CallMiner report underscores the urgent need for enhanced consumer awareness and stricter regulations to combat the growing threat of deepfake calls and voice-based fraud. As AI technology advances, so too must our defences against these sophisticated scams.
