Cadeler to Set Up Wind Turbines for Ocean Winds' Initial Wind Farm Project in Poland as Revealed on Our Platform
In a significant step towards the development of renewable energy, an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) survey is currently underway at the BC-Wind offshore wind farm, located approximately 23 kilometers from the Polish coastline, north of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The UXO survey is being conducted by Ocean Winds, the developer of the 390 MW wind farm, using specialized equipment to detect and neutralize any potential hazards. This crucial step is a common practice in offshore wind farm development to ensure the safety of the construction and operation of the project.
The signing of the firm contract for the transportation and installation of turbines at the BC-Wind offshore wind farm was made between Cadeler and Ocean Winds in February 2025. Cadeler will utilize one of its O-class wind turbine installation vessels for the project.
The BC-Wind offshore wind farm will consist of 26 SG 14-236 turbines, capable of being boosted to 15 MW each. Once fully completed, BC-Wind will have a total capacity of up to 390 MW, capable of supplying clean electricity to nearly half a million Polish households.
The installation is scheduled to begin in 2028 and is expected to last for approximately four months. The UXO survey findings will be used to adjust the project's timeline and ensure the safety of the construction and operation of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm.
The operation will take place from the Port of Gdańsk in Poland. The purpose of the UXO survey is to ensure the safety of the offshore wind farm's construction and operation, making it a crucial step before the transportation and installation of turbines.
With the successful completion of the UXO survey and the subsequent installation of wind turbines, the BC-Wind offshore wind farm is set to contribute significantly to Poland's renewable energy goals, furthering the country's commitment to a sustainable future.
