In the heart of Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia region, the city of Düsseldorf is undergoing a series of road construction and bike lane projects. Here's a snapshot of the latest developments:

Road Construction

The interim report on the summer road construction works is positive, despite the frequent rainfall. The city is making steady progress, with several projects moving ahead as planned. By mid-August, ten streets will be renovated in parts or in their entirety.

One of the notable projects is the resurfacing of the South Ring Road between the Munich Street branch and the Aachen Street with noise-optimized asphalt.

Bridge Maintenance and Renovation

The Theodor-Heuss Bridge is undergoing a monitoring process following a recalculation. The bridge will be closed to all traffic except pedestrians and cyclists on July 19th from 3:00 AM to 8:00 PM for the monitoring.

The corrosion protection on the underside of the Heinrich-Ehrhardt Bridge, which crosses over the Daimler AG plant area, the Toulouser Allee, and the Deutsche Bahn AG tracks, is about 40 years old. To ensure the longevity of the bridge, the corrosion protection must be renewed. A section of the road will be completely closed for about eight weeks from August 23rd.

Bike Lane Construction

The city is also focusing on improving its bike infrastructure. A new bike lane has been constructed on Karlstraße between Stresemannplatz and Kurfürstenstraße in the direction of Worringer Platz. Another gap in the city's bike lane network is being closed on the Franklin Bridge.

The work on the Franklin Bridge bike lane is expected to be completed in October, while the work on the Karlstraße bike lane was completed on July 12th. Another lane on Karlstraße has been removed to accommodate the new bike lane.

Upcoming Works

The Rhine River Tunnel will be closed for the renewal of the flow measurement system from August 3rd to September 25th, on weeknights from Monday to Friday, from 9 PM to 5 AM. Street repairs in Liefergasse in the old town will take place from August 3rd to early September.

Connections to Bagel, Moltke, Rethel, and Humboldt Streets will be upgraded for bike-friendliness. The upcoming pylon inspection on the Rhine Bridge, a cable-stayed bridge, is scheduled for the 32nd and 33rd calendar weeks.
