The UK is taking a significant stride towards self-sufficiency in aircraft manufacturing, as Britten-Norman, a leading aircraft manufacturer, has embarked on a groundbreaking project. For the first time ever, the entire Islander aircraft will be fully manufactured in the UK at their production facility located in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight.

This move signifies a commitment to local manufacturing and industry growth, as well as a resurgence of full-scale aircraft manufacturing in the UK. Previously, larger components of the Islander aircraft were manufactured overseas and then assembled in the UK. However, this new initiative marks a departure from that practice, with Britten-Norman having completed more than half of the assembly of the first Islander aircraft to be fully manufactured in the UK.

The production of the Islander aircraft is expected to create new job opportunities in the aviation industry, contributing positively to the UK's economy and aviation sector. The first delivery of the new Islander aircraft, fully manufactured in the UK, is scheduled for spring 2026.

This step towards self-sufficiency is not only significant for the UK but also for Britten-Norman. The manufacturer of the new Islander aircraft is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative, which marks the return of full aircraft manufacturing to the UK. The Islander aircraft, when fully manufactured in the UK, will undoubtedly contribute to the UK's self-sufficiency in aircraft manufacturing and the growth of the local aviation industry.

As the assembly of the first fully UK-manufactured Islander aircraft nears completion, with only half of the assembly remaining, the excitement and anticipation are palpable. This is indeed a momentous occasion for Britten-Norman and the UK, as they embark on this journey towards a more self-reliant future in aircraft manufacturing.
