Brazil's 'Operation Redirect' Takes Down 8 Illegal Music Streaming Sites
Operation Redirect, a joint effort by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, along with state police forces, has successfully targeted and deactivated eight illegal music streaming sites in Brazil. The operation, launched to protect the rights of artists and ensure safe online access to music, has been praised by industry leaders and is supported by IFPI and Pro-Música Brasil.
The operation, led by the Cyber Operations Laboratory of the Directorate of Integrated Operations and Intelligence in Brazil, marked a first in the country by focusing on illegal sites associated with malware distribution. These sites, which included illegal linking music sites, stream ripping sites, and torrent search engines, had collectively received over 12 million visits in the last year.
Victoria Oakley, CEO of IFPI, commended the operation and its partners for their commitment to protecting Brazilian artists and online safety. Paulo Rosa, President of Pro-Música Brasil, also expressed gratitude towards the authorities for their work in benefiting creators, producers, and the public.
Operation Redirect has successfully removed eight infringing sites from circulation, protecting both artists and users from potential online threats. The operation underscores the commitment of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, along with their partners, to uphold the rights of creators and ensure safe, legal access to music online.
