Brazil Resumes EU Poultry Exports on Oct 16 After Avian Flu Ban

Brazil's poultry exports to the EU will restart on October 16, initially from regions outside the crisis-hit Rio Grande do Sul area. This follows a global ban due to an avian flu outbreak in May 2025.

The outbreak led to a worldwide halt in Brazilian poultry exports, including to key markets like the EU, China, Saudi Arabia, and Chile. After 28 days without new cases, Brazil declared itself free of avian flu on June 18, 2025. The EU has agreed to a phased lifting of its import restrictions, allowing trade to resume gradually.

Brazil has now fully lifted its export restrictions, marking the end of a nearly four-month trading pause. The country is once again considered free of avian flu, paving the way for a return to normal trade.

Starting October 16, Brazil will resume poultry exports to the EU from regions outside Rio Grande do Sul. This follows Brazil's successful control of its avian flu issue and the EU's agreement to lift restrictions in stages.
