Berlin Police Foil Terror Plot: 3 Arrested Over Israeli/Jewish Targets
Berlin police have arrested three men suspected of planning terrorist attacks on Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany. The suspects, all German citizens, are alleged to have ties to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and have been remanded in custody.
The arrested individuals are a 36-year-old German-Lebanese man, a 43-year-old Lebanese national, and a 44-year-old German-Syrian man. They are accused of membership in a foreign terrorist organisation and preparing a serious act of violence that could endanger the state.
Authorities seized an assault rifle, pistols, and ammunition from the suspects, who are believed to have procured these weapons in Germany. The men are suspected of having connections to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, actors in Scandinavia and Turkey, and organised criminal structures. They are also accused of having contact with a suspected mastermind abroad and various networks.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed the arrests, stating that a concrete terrorist threat has been averted. He mentioned consolidated attack plans, although it remains unclear against whom or what these plans were directed.
The suspects, who deny any connection to Hamas, are now in custody in Karlsruhe. The investigation continues, with authorities working to determine the full extent of the alleged plot and any potential links to other terrorist organisations or networks.
