Automotive manufacturer Citroen has issued a no-go alert for four of its models due to concerns about faulty brakes.

In a concerning development, Stellantis, the parent company of Citroen, has issued a "stop-drive" action for several of its models due to potential issues with the pedal box assembly and airbags. This is the third such notice in as many months for the automaker.

The affected models, which sit on Stellantis's Smart Car platform, include right-hand-drive versions of Citroen's C4 (2010-2013), DS3 (2009-2019), DS 4 (2010-2013), and DS5 (2010-2015), as well as the Vauxhall Frontera and Frontera Electric. Fortunately, customer deliveries for the latter have not yet commenced, and impacted cars will be rectified prior to delivery.

The airbag issue in Citroen models was triggered by a Takata-made airbag explosion in a 2014 C3, leading to a fatal accident in France. As a result, near 130,000 cars are affected by the current recall.

In response to the brake failure issue, Stellantis has taken responsibility for the repair of the affected Fiat models, while Citroen has instructed UK customers not to drive four models: C3, e-C3, C3 Aircross, and e-C3 Aircross. Affected customers will receive replacement cars while their vehicles are checked.

Interestingly, the Fiat Grande Panda and Grande Panda Electric aren't affected by the current issue. The automatic emergency braking (AEB) and the electronic parking brake will remain operational if brake failure occurs.

The recall was initially brought to the attention of our website by several readers who were impacted by the Citroen recall. Stellantis has confirmed the issue to a news website in a statement.

For those waiting on Frontera orders, it is reassuring to know that impacted cars will be rectified prior to delivery. It is crucial for all affected customers to follow the instructions provided by Stellantis and Citroen to ensure their safety.

In a separate recall in June, Mk1 DS 3s and Mk2 Citroën C3s built between 2009 and 2019 were also recalled due to the airbag issue. It is a challenging time for Stellantis, but the company is taking decisive action to address these issues and protect its customers.
